Floor play can help encourage social interaction among kids more than table play. Childrens play mats are great tools to promote floor play. Children attain feelings of achievement when they stack blocks or finish puzzles. Doing these things with friends help children learn to work cooperatively and take turns.
Kids need a level surface where toys can be placed, and be stable. Play mats are also ideal for toddlers who are just learning to walk and prefer crawling while playing. Fine motor skills as well as cognitive skills are developed when children can hold and manipulate big and small objects alike. On the floor, they can bang on a miniature drum, put shapes in a sorting container or stick pegs in a slotted board.
