Different Kinds of Puppets
Puppets have always had a special appeal to children. There are different kinds that children will love to play with, depending on their age. Common hand puppets are controlled by the hand which is inserted in the body and oftentimes controls the mouth. Rod puppets require one of the puppeteer’s hands inside the puppet holding a rod which controls the head. Finger puppets are used only on a finger.
The art of puppetry has developed over the years involving certain enhancements. Ventriloquist puppets, for example, bring the puppet to life by ventriloquists who throw their voice to make it sound like the puppet is actually talking. Obviously, this cannot be performed by children but they enjoy watching adult puppeteers tell stories with the puppet as props. Different kinds of puppets cater to different ages. Very young children will probably be able to manage only finger puppets. Older children will be able to manipulate regular hand puppets. Rod puppets are better left for older children and adults.
