A tricycle is a three-wheeled vehicle that is often associated with the small three-wheeled vehicles used by pre-school children. These trikes, often made of metal, have two rubber wheels in the back and one in front. Trikes can often help a child master the art of pedaling without worrying about balance, although a child who can pedal fast enough has probably overturned his trike a number of times. The traditional tricycle designed for children is probably one of the simplest designs when it comes to these three-wheeled wonders.
The children’s tricycle usually has no braking method, aside from putting your feet down on the ground. The design is also upright, meaning the seat is located above the wheels. Another popular variation for children are recumbent tricycles, where the seat is partially below the wheels. Recumbent tricycles are often called a “big wheel”, and are usually made of plastic and may prove easier to maneuver for some children. Some parents object to this type of tricycle because it places children lower to the ground, making them less likely to be seen by passing cars.

Much as they would like to, little kids are not yet fit to ride bicycles. This requires balance and body coordination. Buy one of those tricycles for toddler instead. The three wheels will ensure stability while your little one learns to propel himself forward by learning to pedal.
Buy trikes that are durable. Choose rubber wheels over plastic as the latter are slippery and can also break. Don’t select a tricycle where your child has to sit too high or the front wheel is too large. This has a tendency to tip over especially if a child tries to turn a corner quickly.
