wooly bear

February 25th, 2009

I cannot imagine being a child and not owning at least a few stuffed toys. Fortunately, stuffed toys are the most often gifted presents to a child. When my daughter was a kid, she slept in a tiny portion of her bed because the major part was occupied by her Woogok, a boxer chimpanzee, Alfonso, her stuffed bear with a Vietnamese hat, and a host of other stuffed friends and playmates. She must have awakened some mornings with a stiff neck but she never complained for as long as her friends were beside her when they traveled to dreamland.

One of her favorites was a wooly bear that had been tested through crying sessions, bouts with the flu and stressful nights before a major test. The wooly bear was there to comfort her when there was nobody else on her side. Faded with age, wooly bear endured so many trips to the laundry shop for dry cleaning. Today, wooly bear is one of a few toys that she decided to keep. It is not in a box in the storage room. It lives in a basket on top of her closet.
