Roller skating is a kind of sport and recreational activity that involves moving across smooth surfaces using roller skates. Skates generally are classified in two varieties, quad skates and inline skates. One of the games played on quad skates is roller hockey. It has been a demonstration roller sport in the 1992 Summer Olympics in Barcelona.
On the other hand, inline skating is often performed on sidewalks, skate parks and special tracks and areas. There are inline skaters who compete in artistic skating events although quads are still more popular for those. For skaters who are not devoted to a particular discipline, one popular social activity is group or street skating.
