bamboo longboard

January 4th, 2010

Longboarding is the brand new innovation in skateboarding. Like any other skateboard, the longboard has four fiberglass wheels that let you cruise the smooth pavements. However, the longboard is a bit longer and its ground clearance is a bit higher than that of a skateboard. The wheels are also wider.

The longboard is made out of plywood materials around a half inch thick. The board is designed to be flexible so you can maneuver yourself easily. Oftentimes, plywood breaks apart during accidents and when making tricks. Thus, some longboarders switch to the bamboo longboard which is said to be a stronger, durable and yet very flexible alternative. Bamboo, after all, is known to be very strong and is still often used as scaffolding for building constructions in many countries in Asia.

teddy bear dogs

December 28th, 2009

My three year old daughter wants a dog for her birthday. In particular, she wants one of those furry teddy bear dogs we pass by in the pet shop during weekends at the mall. However, I am afraid that the dog hairs might worsen her asthma. As a compromise, my husband and I looked for a plush toy that resembles a teddy bear dog.

My daughter loved her new toy! I’m so glad she was not disappointed for not receiving a live dog. We explained to her how a real dog might affect her breathing and she understood! Now, she never goes anywhere without that teddy bear dog plush toy. She even sleeps with it every night.

hand puppet

December 21st, 2009

I work in a preschool. Part of my job is to build the skills of the children and work on their creativity. There are ways to do that from drawing to role play. My favorite way to do it is by using a hand puppet. It is fun and it gets the job done.

A hand puppet is a great way to find out what a child is thinking. It is actually used in children therapy sessions. Everybody knows about the short attention span of children. In order for them to learn, you should be able to grab their attention for long periods. Hand puppets will do this. That’s why most children shows have them.
