organic baby toys

July 31st, 2009

Just like any first time mom, I was rather paranoid when it came to my baby. I had read everything I could get my hands on about BPA, lead and other chemicals that were found in baby and children’s products. I was always watchful of the how her food was prepared and what type of clothes and toys she played with. I made sure that she ate organic baby food at 6 months which I sourced and prepared myself. I also tried to fill her room with organic baby toys.

Organic baby toys are those that are made using organic products like cotton, wood and rubber. Instead of the usual teddy bears, my baby had small stuffed toys made using organic cotton. They in turn were filled with natural wool I did not have to worry about my baby getting allergies from them. I also gave my baby organic wooden rattles instead of the cheap plastic ones. These wooden toys were made not from trees that were cut, but from recycled wood.

radio control boats

July 23rd, 2009

When I was ten years my family went to an airfield where we met my cousins, aunts and uncles. That day, I found out that my cousins and uncles were into radio control airplanes. I was awestruck at the numerous planes that day. There were two helicopters, numerous planes and a spaceship. They showed me how to fly the plane. It was so hard. When I got home, I pestered my dad for one. The following weekend, my dad and I decided to look for radio control boats instead. He said it’s easier to use and it won’t crash violently.

My dad and I had fun looking at radio control boats. At first I wanted a submarine but the racing boats looks so much slicker. Since we know next to nothing by RC boats, my dad and I decided to get a cheap electric one that doesn’t go very fast. We don’t want to crash the boat; rather, he doesn’t want me to crash it. Now, that I’m an adult, we still go to the lake to sail our RC boats with my dad and my son.

skater buds

July 23rd, 2009

It was year 2002 when I stayed in my cousin’s Manhattan apartment for three months. He was away for the summer and allowed me to use his place. He told me to help myself to anything. So one day out of boredom I put on his rollerblades and attempted to skate in Central Park. I took my two nephews with me to the park so we could all enjoy a day out in the sun. As soon as I began rollerblading, I managed to fall, crash into some bushes and nearly fell over an old lady all within a span of 20 minutes. My two nephews who were toddlers back then kept on laughing at me. Just last week, my nephews who have grown to pesky kids showed me their new skater buds.

Skater buds is the latest evolution in roller skates. It is not a shoe with wheels, and it is not heavy and bulky. The straps are adjustable in size so that they can fit your child’s shoe as he or she grows. They also come with colorful wheels which you can remove and replace with lighted skate wheels. Skater buds are ideal for children 8 years old and a who above who do not weigh more than 150 lbs. The child must have a keen sense of balance. Skater buds should always be worn with a helmet, knee and shoulder pads for protection.

wooden kids toys

July 23rd, 2009

Working as a preschool pre-school for almost three years, I was able to identify what types of educational toys works best for kids. Although we have numerous toys in school, but for my class I prefer to use wooden kids toys. They are simply, safe, durable and will hardly break. We actually have a section for broken toys—none of them are made from wood.

I prefer wooden toys because it’s easier for me to keep track on the kids. I don’t want the kids breaking a small piece of a toy and eating it. I can say that wooden kids toys are close to my heart. There are the same toys I used to play with as a kid. I remember playing endlessly with wooden blocks, a wooden rocking horse and a wooden train. My imagination would go on and on whenever I play with wooden toys in all sorts of shapes and sizes.

Leapfrog Leapster 2

July 22nd, 2009

Even in their time, our parents were already advocates of learning through games. We had all sorts of board games meant to be enjoyed by several players so that we learned how to interact with other children. Scrabble was present in almost every home. It taught spelling and widened the children’s vocabulary. With these games the children learn how to take turns and to accept that there is only one winner

These days, the same games are played on the computer or in handheld devices. But there are modern devices, products of the technology boom that are more advanced but serve similar purposes. Leapfrog Leapster 2 is great for children ages 4 to 8 years old. It offers a healthy learning experience through built in tutorials and learning levels that adapt to the child’s pace. Parents can share in their accomplishments through detailed updates on skills learned.
