Babble

January 30th, 2009

Board games are fun. They’re easy to play and engaging. Babble is a great example of excellent board games. It’s simple enough to play with but the fun is addicting! It’s like playing go fish except with words.

It’s called Babble because the words printed on the cards are in no way connected to each other. Basically each player reads out the words on their cards simultaneously. When one player hears another player say a word that is also on his card then they have to place both cards face up on the table. To determine who wins the round, a die is cast. It is ideally played with 2 or more players.

January 30th, 2009

Perhaps there is no other more popular alternative sport that skateboarding. First introduced during the 1950s by surfers who wanted to “surf” in the streets. It was never established who actually made the first skateboard. And although a few people have actually claimed that the idea started from them, nobody has managed to prove beyond doubt the authenticity of their claim. Up to this day, the exact beginnings of the sport remain vague and mysterious.

First considered a novelty sport, skateboarding has now established its permanence in the sports world. More and more, the popularity of skateboarding has reached far and wide. The skateboard is a staple form of transportation among kids and adults. And it has evolved into a multi-million dollar industry. Skateboarding has evolved from being a laid-back hobby into a competitive sport and it shows no sign of slowing down.

Teaching children the 3 Rs can be both a fun and environmentally-friendly. How? By choosing their toys carefully. Instead of buying plastic toys that may contain toxic chemicals, choose educational wooden toys since they are made from more natural materials, are easier to recycle, and can last longer.

Teaching kids using these toys make learning a richer experience. The mix of play and learning has been proven to work on so many levels for the benefit of kids. Playing develops motor skills and quick thinking, among others. The interaction kids get from playing also helps round out their personalities.

baby dolls

January 27th, 2009

Have you ever collected anything? Others collect stamps, buttons, refrigerator magnets. Others collect rose petals preserved by pinning them inside a heavy book. Others ask people to send them postcards instead of gifts.

I have a collection too: baby dolls dressed in the national costumes of the world. I have always been amazed by these costumes, which for me reflects so much about their culture and way of life. I usually try to collect boy-and-girl dolls, but most of the time I get only the girl dolls. I have them on custom-built shelf at home, but eventually, I would like to donate some of my dolls to a children’s museum when time comes.
