Traditional wooden toys

December 4th, 2008

Before the high-technology, electronic gadgets came into play, kids did have fun playing with simpler toys. Traditional wooden toys usually last much longer than toys made with synthetic materials. The prices vary depending on age and general condition. The older a wooden toy is, the more valuable it is. Wooden toys came about because the material is readily available and can be done simply with a carving knife.

Nowadays, prices of wooden toys rise in proportion to the time and skill required to make them. Still, people, especially parents, continue to buy them for their durability. Children can play with wooden toys both indoors and outdoors. Preserve these toys by cleaning the surface with a damp cloth before storage.

model sailboats

December 2nd, 2008

There is one scene in the Stuart Little movie that is truly thrilling. It is the part when they go to Central Park to join a sailboat contest. They all wanted to win first prize.

Stuart, his big brother, and their dad worked together to finish one of the most magnificent boats in the lot. When the model sailboats took off, Stuart was in the lead, but a rival was cheating and destroyed most of the model boats in the fleet. It took Stuart’s determination to steer his damaged boat towards the finish line.

bilingual childrens books

December 2nd, 2008

My child is such a huge fan of Dora the Explorer. This Nickelodeon show is about a small girl who goes on different adventures to help her friends. Dora is bilingual; she talks in Spanish and English. Her amazing character makes children to be enthusiastic in learning to speak another language like Spanish.

That made me like the show too because my child picks up Spanish phrases like Gracias and De nada. To further her studies in foreign languages and encourage her more, I buy her bilingual childrens books online and I read them to her every chance I get. Besides, it’s not only her who gets to know more about other languages, I get to learn a lot too!
