Easing Someone’s Loss

The problem with time is that you always have to catch up with it and in the process leave memories behind. Without photographs or souvenirs loved ones and favorite events will just remain memories. Eventually, they will be forgotten forever. That is why it is so important that we keep something that will remind us of people that are no longer with us or times of our lives that we cannot go back to. That is why memory bears are so popular.

Memory bears are customized bears made from fabrics that have special meaning. A daughter going off to college might want to have a memory bear made out of her elementary and high school uniforms. It will be something that will remind her of home while away. A young man might have a memory bear made out of the blanket of his favorite dog that passed away. He can keep it on a shelf and it will ease his loss somewhat.

One of the most painful experiences one can go through is the loss of a loved one. Nothing can ever replace a loved one. The pain of the loss may never go away. Sometimes it does not hurt to keep a little reminder or of our loved one. One way is to keep a memory bear of your departed loved one.

A memory bear is made using a piece of clothing of a departed loved one. A memory bear is usually a small bear which you can keep in your room or in your car. The bear can be dressed in a shirt made from an actual shirt owned by your departed loved one. The piece of clothing can also be sewn into the bear’s paws. Isn’t this a tender and adorable way of having a piece of your departed loved one with you everyday?

Audubon plush birds

Kids today are so lucky. They have such cool toys. My son has just turned two years old. My husband and I decided we would not get him a lot of hi tech toys. They’re expensive and they easily break. When he was a baby, we bought him classic toys like Audubon plush birds, wooden toys and metal cars.

I learned about the Audubon society several years ago. It’s wonderful how they work to preserve nature. The Audubon plush birds are not only educational; they’re so adorable and cute as well. My son will learn all about the different kinds of birds through his toys. He will get to touch them and see their shapes and colors. The Audubon plush birds also make a sound when you squeeze them! Isn’t that just delightful?

Stuffed animals

When looking for something to gift a child we automatically reach for a stuffed toy. Stuffed animals are our favorite. We like them soft, cuddly and big! Since we will continue to do this, we might as well know what to look for in stuffed animals. For one, we should stop buying huge animal toys for little kids. First, it is dangerous for kids to play with them. If the kid attempts to carry the toy, she might topple down and get hurt. Second, it occupies such a huge space in the crib or bed.

We should also teach ourselves not to choose merely based on cuteness or cushiness. We should start looking into the material used. Cloth and plush are popular choices although other materials are also being used. Ask about the quality of the material used including the filling. Go for organic materials. They might be a bit more expensive but it will be a good investment in the health of your child.

Children love to have animal toys around them. They become their friends and sometimes they even talk to them. Making a stuffed animal can be great fun especially when you have your children to help you. You can make one by following these simple steps:

~Pick out the fabric that you like.
~Draw a sketch with a light colored marker of the animal that you like. You can also download a pattern from the internet.
~Cut out two figures.
~Sew the two figures together. Make sure to leave a hole so you can put in your stuffing.
~Turn the animal inside out.
~Stuff the animal with your batting material.
~Sew the hole closed.
~Add whatever details you desire – tails, ears, mouth, and nose.
~Encourage your child to give it a name.

My three year old daughter wants a dog for her birthday. In particular, she wants one of those furry teddy bear dogs we pass by in the pet shop during weekends at the mall. However, I am afraid that the dog hairs might worsen her asthma. As a compromise, my husband and I looked for a plush toy that resembles a teddy bear dog.

My daughter loved her new toy! I’m so glad she was not disappointed for not receiving a live dog. We explained to her how a real dog might affect her breathing and she understood! Now, she never goes anywhere without that teddy bear dog plush toy. She even sleeps with it every night.

I love going to toy stores. It’s like entering a whole new world of fun and fantasy. My son loves to go and play with the stuffed animals. Toy stores have so many stuffed animals. You can teach kids all about the different animals by just being in the stuffed animals section.

Stuffed animals in toy stores are usually made of cotton. Some animals even have whiskers so kids can touch them and play with them. Some stuffed animals make sounds when a button is pressed and some even walk or jump. The most common or the most favorite of all the stuffed animals are of course the bears. Dogs or puppies are also a favorite; most toy stores even have several breeds of dogs as part of their stuffed animal collection.

Gund bears

October 23rd, 2009

If you love stuffed toys you probably own a few made by Gund. Gund is one of the oldest stuffed animal manufacturers in the U.S. Started in 1898 by a German immigrant it became the standard of quality stuffed toys. They were among the first to design and produce teddy bears around the early 1900s. They have since been responsible for the many innovations in the stuffed toys that we see in stores today.

Gund bears are known for their being soft and huggable. This is because of the manufacturer’s patented technique of under stuffing. Their use of plush materials also adds to the supple quality of their products. What child (or adult) will be able to resist Brighton, an 18 inches tall soft and cuddly white bear with very soft fur and a sheer white dotted bow around his neck? Or the smaller Goober Bear. He is plump and cuddly with brown plush fur and a tan face and tummy.
