radio control boats

July 23rd, 2009

When I was ten years my family went to an airfield where we met my cousins, aunts and uncles. That day, I found out that my cousins and uncles were into radio control airplanes. I was awestruck at the numerous planes that day. There were two helicopters, numerous planes and a spaceship. They showed me how to fly the plane. It was so hard. When I got home, I pestered my dad for one. The following weekend, my dad and I decided to look for radio control boats instead. He said it’s easier to use and it won’t crash violently.

My dad and I had fun looking at radio control boats. At first I wanted a submarine but the racing boats looks so much slicker. Since we know next to nothing by RC boats, my dad and I decided to get a cheap electric one that doesn’t go very fast. We don’t want to crash the boat; rather, he doesn’t want me to crash it. Now, that I’m an adult, we still go to the lake to sail our RC boats with my dad and my son.

Not many people know that some RC models may be fueled by gas. Gas RC boats are actually more popular than most people think. A gasoline powered RC boat actually uses standard 2 stroke gasoline engine similar to that used in garden tools such as edgers, blowers, and trimmers. One reason for its popularity is its low cost to run and maintain. Another reason is the simplicity of the mechanism that does away with accessories necessary in nitro powered RC boats.

In choosing the fuel that will power the RC boat one of the most important questions to ask is ‘How fast will it go?” For first timers, 15-20 mph is pretty decent. As you progress with your skills you can go faster but be sure to upgrade the capacity of your motor. The most common RC boats are still powered by electricity. Shop around in dependable stores and you’ll never go wrong.

There are those yacht-like rigs and those sleekly designed racing rigs.

Some national parks hold ship racing competitions. Hundreds of RC enthusiasts gather together to pit their boats against other boats. They also convene in these meets to talk shop. Remember the movie Stuart Little? The part I loved the most in the movie was the boat race along the river. So there were these high-powered RC boats alright, but the Little Family’s boat had extra power — Stuart himself!

Stuart really looked cute manning their little sailboat. I was wishing I could join him as he sailed, but of course I can’t shrink myself. The big bully nearly defeated Stuart by cheating, but Stuart held steady. Seeing that movie made me want to by my own RC boat and put a little toy mouse in it so I could sail along a river too.

Many RC beginners become easily engrossed by this type of hobby since there are a lot of options to choose from and assembling required. Car-building enthusiasts should consider looking at other cars to get inspiration for building their car. While the parts are available, the assortment varies by type and size. Therefore, this part calls for long periods of thinking.

There are choices between on-road and off-road RC vehicles. Adventurous racers could go for off-road cars, while those who prefer a smooth ride can have on-road vehicles. Either way, both selections are great if properly enhanced by the owner. Another thing for the RC hobbyist to consider is choosing the size of the RC vehicle. Vehicles that are of 1/10th scale are the well-liked ones, but there are still bigger ones on a 1/8th scale. Micros and minis are also available. The fun part is, if you are the type who doesn’t want to be limited to RC cars, you can always choose from having planes, monster trucks to RC speed boats for your RC collection.
